Special Edition 4810

The King Ludwig II Montblanc pen is a limited edition writing instrument that pays tribute to the Bavarian king who was known as the “Fairy Tale King”. The swan, ubiquitous in Ludwig’s castles, inspired the design of this model with its guilloche swan feather pattern beneath the white lacquer of the cap. The graceful neck and head of a swan give the champagne-colored, gold-plated clip its elegant shape. In memory of the world-famous fairy-tale castle of Neuschwanstein, the MB 2018 Homage to Ludwig II bears a fine engraving of the castle on the handcrafted Au 750 gold nib. The shape of the cone is inspired by one of the castle towers. In homage to the visionary fairy tale king, the blue lacquer finish on the barrel is inspired by the color of his robe. The fine engraving on the cone symbolizes the embossing of the monarch’s royal seal. Another detail inspired by the royal seal is the champagne-colored gold-plated crown that decorates the cap.

King Ludwig II

King Ludwig II was a Bavarian king who is known for his love of art, music, and literature, as well as his eccentric personality. Born Ludwig Otto Friedrich Wilhelm in 1845, Ludwig II was the son of King Maximilian II and Queen Marie of Bavaria. He became king at the age of 18, following the death of his father.

Ludwig II is often referred to as the “Fairy Tale King” due to his love of art, music, and literature, as well as his eccentric personality. He was a patron of the arts, and was known for his support of composers such as Richard Wagner. Ludwig II also had a passion for architecture, and is known for commissioning the construction of several extravagant castles, including Neuschwanstein Castle.

Despite his many accomplishments, Ludwig II faced several challenges during his reign. He was often criticized for his lavish spending and his eccentric behavior, and he struggled with mental illness. In 1886, Ludwig II was declared insane and was deposed. He died under mysterious circumstances a few days later.

Despite the challenges he faced, Ludwig II’s legacy as a passionate patron of the arts and an eccentric figure remains intact. He is often remembered as one of the most fascinating figures in European history, and his love of art and culture continues to be celebrated to this day.
