Trading house history

The history of the Rheinländer trading company began on October 24, 1999. At the age of 15, the founder Michael Rheinländer bought his first fountain pen from Montblanc: a Meisterstück 144 in black. Even before purchasing the Meisterstück, he had developed an interest and fascination for fountain pens and in particular the Montblanc brand.

The first purchase was not only the fulfillment of a dream, but also the starting point for a personal and later professional passion and success story. After Michael Rheinländer had completely become enthralled by the Montblanc myth, he began to buy, refurbish and collect various writing instruments from the brand at flea markets. What was particularly fascinating about Montblanc was that the founder had not known of any luxury segment in which the market share of a single brand was perceived to be as high as in writing instruments. The question also arose as to what type of buyer would be prepared to spend six-figure sums on a writing instrument.

Seized by curiosity, the first trade in Montblanc products was established on the online marketplace eBay. Immediately after the first sales, Mr. Rheinländer was certain: Montblanc writing instruments are almost exclusively bought by very successful people. This confirmed the preconceived opinion that arose from the fact that in various TV films and series lawyers, doctors, tax consultants, entrepreneurs, etc. always sign with Montblanc fountain pens. Further research revealed that even the German Bundestag is equipped with the high-quality products and that all state contracts are signed exclusively with Montblanc writing instruments.

Since dealing with these special customers was a lot of fun and the founder found the clientele very pleasant, he intensified his trading activities. Through various contacts, he got to know a well-known jeweler from the Ruhr area who works as a concessionaire for Montblanc. This initial meeting led to a close cooperation, which meant that on January 1, 2005, professional trading in the most expensive mass-produced writing instruments began as a side business. Due to the founder's passion and the almost exclusively positive feedback from customers, the Rheinländer trading house was quickly converted into a main business. In January 2015, the company moved into its business premises, including a showroom, in Ravensburg. The Rheinländer trading house is happy to receive its customers there in person by appointment and present the range of products on offer to them live. "It is always a great pleasure to get to know my customers personally and to share with them the Montblanc myth and the timelessness of the high-quality writing instruments, as well as to give my customers a lifelong, loyal companion in the form of a writing instrument," confirms Michael Rheinländer. After many successful years in business, it is more true than ever that it is the customers who make the Montblanc brand what it is perceived as today: elegant, luxurious and timeless.

Sincerely
