Montblanc Watches
From a noble writing instrument to a noble timepiece
Montblanc wristwatches and Montblanc writing instruments: parts of the range that only at first glance seem to have nothing to do with each other. In the end, they are two product categories that equally embody the Montblanc philosophy of striving for the highest level of craftsmanship. By the way: The word “chronograph” means "time recorder". The first of its kind in 1821 was not a wristwatch, but a machine that recorded time with ink (!) on paper. Its inventor, Nicolas Rieussec, is now the namesake of one of Montblanc's current watch lines.
In the end, the only relevant difference between the Montblanc Meisterstücks and Montblanc watches is that Montblanc writing instruments are craftsmanship made in Germany, while Montblanc mechanical luxury wristwatches are all made in the place where watch aficionados rightly value their watch expertise. locate: In Switzerland.
No compromises for the masterpieces of timekeeping – SWISS MADE
Montblanc men's and women's watches are made entirely in Switzerland and are therefore allowed to bear the "SWISS MADE" seal of quality on the dial and on the back of the watch case. This has been the case since Montblanc Montre SA began developing and producing high-quality watches in the Swiss Jura in 1997 with the support of the Richemont Group. This still applies to high-quality mechanical watches today without exception - only those that cross the line between pure timepieces and smart devices, such as the Montblanc Summit 2, are an exception.
At Montre SA, the Meisterstück watch collection was first created, with the DNA of the writing instruments of the same name evident at first glance: The 4810 is engraved into the case to the left and right of the crown. On the opposite side of the case, the Meisterstück lettering is also artistically engraved. The watch crown, like the cap head of the writing instruments, is adorned with a Montblanc star. The first watches, like the classic Meisterstück, are made in gold-plated cases, combined with deep black dials - the Montblanc Meisterstück 7001 chronograph is one of the typical examples from this early period.
Stainless steel and bright dials will soon complement the collection. The rounded lines of the Meisterstück watches show the relationship to the writing Meisterstück and also make them tangible.
A star is born - The Star Collection
The former Meisterstück watch collection has become the Star collection. Gold and black are still available as colors, but now the entire range of materials and colors that are typical for luxury watches is available. The luxury claim is visible in guilloches on dials and engravings on Rotors visible through the glass bottom.
As with the Meisterstück collections, the watches from the Star line also have fluted onion-shaped crowns with a Montblanc emblem.
Women's watches with smaller calibers of 32mm complement the more masculine lines, which are usually made in 38mm. Especially for women's watches, materials such as mother of pearl are used on dials and crowns, as well as gemstones on the bezels. Chronographs are also offered in 32mm cases.
In addition to stainless steel and platinum or gold-plated cases, 18K gold is also used for the cases, both "white", "yellow" and "rose". In addition to metal bracelets with folding clasps, the Star collection is offered with a variety of leather bracelets.
Complications range from the date display to GMT to the moon phase clock and perpetual calendar. Chronographs with tachymeter scales on the dial are also included. The high-quality movements come from ETA or ETA/Valjoux.
Blued screws in the movement give the models with glass backs a very special aesthetic. Some of the Star models, for example the Montblanc Meisterstück Star 7236, take up this color accent in the form of blued hour and minute hands.
Do it yourself – for the sake of quality
Montblanc's philosophy in watchmaking from the very beginning: Do it yourself and have full control to ensure uncompromising quality in the end! In Montblanc's watch factory, each movement is individually checked and the watches are assembled by hand - this is still the case today.
No matter what caliber, whether it's a three-hand watch, chronograph or moon phase watch, and regardless of whether it's automatic or hand-wound with a power reserve: with a Montblanc watch you're always buying masterful quality that's worth keeping and passing on to the next generation. The physical product quality and timeless aesthetics of Montblanc wristwatches make this possible. Today's new watch becomes tomorrow's retro watch and, in the best sense, an investment in the future.
Go swimming with Montblanc - Sports Watches
Montblanc products are companions for life. For many people, this includes sport, including in the water. The Montblanc Sports Collection is the answer to such an active lifestyle. With cases that can withstand 20 bar water pressure thanks to screw-down crowns, you can not only swim, but also go deep diving. Highly scratch-resistant sapphire crystals, rotating bezels and a magnifying glass function for reading the date round off the sporty appeal of the watches.
In addition to the classic material stainless steel, titanium and tantalum are used for the watch cases between 41.5 and 44mm. With the Montblanc Sport Chronograph Tantalum Automatic, even pressures of 30 bar are no problem; that corresponds to a water depth of 300 m!
Bridging the gap to the 21st century – Timewalker
Timewalker watches from Montblanc: Nowhere else does traditional craftsmanship meet so vehemently and obviously on modern aesthetics and a design that can rightly be called architectural. Avant-garde lines and skeletonized horns for holding the straps are trademarks of the Timewalker series, most of which are built into 43mm cases, some in 42mm calibers.
Complications start with the date display, continue with chronographs and GMT functions, and end with the Large Retrograde Automatic with power reserve display.
The range of materials extends from stainless steel to precious metals: yellow, red and white gold, all in 18K. In addition to metal bracelets with ceramic inlays and folding clasps, there are high-quality leather bracelets with pin buckles. Water resistance up to 30m. Highly scratch-resistant sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating make it easy to read the very clear, large dials in all lighting conditions.
Inspiration from Swiss watchmaking – Heritage Collection
Montblanc's Heritage Collection is nothing more and nothing less than a tribute to the finest Swiss watchmaking. Complications such as those found in the Montblanc Heritage Exotourbillon Minute Chronométrie are among the highest levels of fine watchmaking. A Montblanc Heritage Chronometrie Dual Time automatic watch also rightly belongs in this collection, in which the highest technical standards meet perfect design.
Haute Horlogerie at its finest – 1858 Villeret
Only a decade after entering the watchmaking industry, Montblanc finally rose to the top ranks of the highest quality mechanical watch manufacturers. In 2007, the "Institut Minerva de Recherche en Haute Horlogerie" began developing and producing the finest timepieces, including developing its own movements.
The Montblanc Collection Villeret 1858 is without doubt one of the milestones of Swiss watchmaking. Only a few hundred of these completely hand-made timepieces made of platinum, yellow or white gold leave the factory each year, each individually numbered.
What makes the Minerva calibers so unique is the unusually large flywheel. With only 18,000 vibrations per second, it runs with an unparalleled regularity. But the real highlight is the spring, the proverbial restless spirit that causes the flywheel to oscillate. The correct length of this spring is of paramount importance for the precise running of the watch. In the case of the "Villeret", this length is not determined by a machine, but is measured and calibrated by highly experienced watchmakers. The fact that the bridges and plates are finished by hand - without exception - is almost just a detail, albeit an important one.
Tradition means carrying the fire forward, not preserving the embers - Rieussec
When you hear the term craftsmanship, you might associate it with sticking to the tried and tested and the routine, constantly perfected execution of routines. This only applies to Montblanc insofar as it has always been "old-fashioned" and has paid attention to the implementation of ideas in the best sense of the word with craftsmanship. But these ideas can also be new. And it is precisely this heritage spirit that gives rise to innovations that are implemented with perfect craftsmanship.
The Montblanc Star Nicolas Rieussec collection is an example of this. A completely new type of caliber was developed here. The chronographs are equipped with a so-called vertical clutch, which enables the chronograph function in continuous operation with minimal friction losses in the movement. Another unique feature of the watches in the Nicolas Rieussec series is the design with the moving chronograph totalizers, which run as discs under a fixed hand. These discs are reminiscent of the first timepiece by Nicolas Rieussec mentioned at the beginning, which "wrote" time in the same way.
The monopusher design for operating the chronograph function rounds off the innovative product concept. All watches in the series are equipped with 2 barrels, allowing for a power reserve of 72 hours. With the MB R100, MB R110 and MB R120 calibers installed over time, the collection has been continuously developed both technically and aesthetically.
Montblanc goes digital - Summit 2 Smart Watches
Despite all the perfection and craftsmanship, Montblanc is not closed to digitalization. This is reflected in Montblanc's only non-Swiss watch line, the Smart Watches such as the Montblanc Summit 2 watches. With features such as GPS, compass, barometer, Google connection and much more morethey meet the needs of Generation Y. All this is packaged in a quality that will allow these watches to be passed on to Generation Z. Montblanc Smart Watches are also life companions in this sense.
