Montblanc Limited Edition List
The world of limited editions from Montblanc
Fountain pens are the nucleus of Montblanc’s development into an international cultural brand. Fountain pens, rollerballs, ballpoint pens and pencils are more than just a physical product. Writing by hand was and is part of culture and an expression of personality.
Montblanc's brand essence is to promote art and culture. This claim is reflected in particular in those parts of the product range that are aimed at connoisseurs, enthusiasts and passionate collectors: the limited editions. Depending on the series, they are available as fountain pens, rollerballs, ballpoint pens or even as mechanical pencils.
Montblanc Limited Editions list
In addition to luxurious one-off pieces, which include skeletonized writing instruments such as the Charlie Chaplin and those made of Meissen porcelain, there are three long-standing lines in particular that have been and continue to be influential for Montblanc's limited editions: the Writers Editions, the editions of the Patron of Art series and the Great Characters.
Writers Editions
Since 1992, Montblanc has honored literary figures of the past with this series. Each year, it is a tribute to authors whose works were influential in the era in which they created their oeuvre. These are always writers from the past who literally have something to say right up to the present day with their novels, essays, dramas and poems.
Each series is only produced for one year. The products - each writing style individually - are therefore limited in number. The limitation number is engraved on each device. At the end of the production period, the specific tools required for production are destroyed. This ensures that limitations are final and definitive and the exclusivity of the products is secured.
It all started almost 30 years ago with Ernest Hemingway. The current version for 2020 is dedicated to Victor Hugo. Montblanc pays tribute to the truly greats of world literature every year - Agatha Christie, Mark Twain, Homer and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry are just a few examples.

Patron of Art Edition
Also in 1992, Montblanc began to establish the second important line in the field of limited editions: the editions from the Patrons of Art series.
Here, it is not cultural creators and artists, but supporters of art and culture. The focus is on patrons who have had a significant influence on art and culture and who have earned the world cultural heritage or shaped it through their actions.
Initially limited to 4810 pieces, from 1994 onwards a series with a limitation of only 888 pieces worldwide was added with the same design, but mostly using precious metals such as fine gold, adding another crown to the value.
Lorenzo de Medici started it all in 1992. Gaius Maecenas, Scipione Borghese, Hadrian are just a few of the famous names that have been added by 2021. The 2021 edition is dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte.

Great Characters
As with the Writers Editions and the Patrons of the Art, the Great Characters have also been focusing on people without whose actions and deeds the world would be different since 2009. The Great Characters posthumously give a stage to people who have shaped the world in their profession and changed it for the better.
The spectrum ranges from politics, filmmakers and universal artists to outstanding jazz or pop musicians.
Mahatma Gandhi, John F. Kennedy, The Beatles, James Dean, Walt Disney or the 2020 version Elvis Presley give an impression of the range and “caliber” of the personalities in focus.
